who are we?

tondo 4

This project stems form the ideas and perseverance of Michelangelo Pistoletto and is run by Agenzia n-2 and Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto, in cooperation with Rivoli Castle - Museum of Contemporary Art in the framework of the event Turin World Book Capital with Rome, and with the active participation of the public.

Agenzia n-2

Conceived and founded in Turin in 2004 by Iris Marano and Judith Wielander, Agenzia n-2 (n minus two) aims at being a sensitive receptor on the territory. By definition, an agency is an enterprise that provides services to third parties. The term indicates our way of working: we offer a service, or rather tools and/or opportunities. Arts, seen as sensual languages, are our working tools.

For Agenzia n-2, the term "agency" emphasises our working method, while "n" represents an indefinite number, multiplicity, and, in our case, the community where we work. The number "2" is the minimum number to create a variable-geometry group, and the "-" symbol, the subtraction sign, is the operating code of our actions. To "subtract" yourself from the community means you don't add yourself or products to it. You don't suggest, but rather imagine and listen. We see this "subtraction" as a tool to unveil reality. Agenzia n-2 works to open up room for opportunity. To us, to subtract means to make room, or find room again. Our key objective is to involve the community and/or the public in a process of social self-activation.
By triggering a performing process of analysis of reality, we intend to introduce in a predetermined system (a community, the public attending an event, a neighbourhood, a city, etc.) an element of difference (such as an artist) which offers social actors the opportunity to analyse, strengthen or autonomously transform their system.

Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto
cittadellarte¨
Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto was founded in 1998 as a physical expression of the Progetto Arte manifesto, where artist Michelangelo Pistoletto suggests a new role for the artist, centred on his direct social involvement and responsibility.
The name "Cittadellarte" embodies two meanings. First, it is a "citadel", a protected and well defended area where artistic projects can be nurtured and developed, but also a "city", which reminds of open-mindedness and complex interrelations with the world.
Cittadellarte is a huge laboratory where creativity represents the meeting point among the cultural, economic and production worlds. It is a powerful generator of energy, a place to look at things with new eyes, share perspectives, study and carry out research.
The activities of Cittadellarte are based on a vision of "creative involvement" where art interacts directly with all the dimensions of the social system - from economy to politics, from science to production, from education to behaviour - in order to bring about a responsible transformation of the human civilisation.
